If you are planning to go on a long-term trip, it is better to prepare your suitcase or backpack well in order to be prepared for any eventuality, particularly with regard to the weather, climate and temperatures. Thermo-regulating technical clothing is then the ideal solution, to combine comfort, quality and above all safety! Let’s find out together in this article.

What is thermoregulatory technical clothing?

Thermoregulating clothing, or also called technical clothing, is clothing that, as its name suggests, will allow you to regulate the temperature. In addition, its technology allows you to keep your body temperature at the right level when it is cold or hot.

Used when traveling, it avoids having to wear several layers of clothing and therefore lightens your suitcase when temperatures are very low such as at altitude, but it will also allow you in summer for example or in places where the temperature is high, to be less hot.

There are several types of clothing, ranging from a simple thermoregulating t-shirt to a complete set of clothing, including both the upper body and the bottom (pants or shorts) or even underwear such as underwear, socks, etc.

Why buy and when to use temperature-regulating clothing?

As said above, this type of thermal clothing which regulates heat has a big advantage, even several. In addition to the fact that they help prevent hypothermia and hyperthermia, above all they help reduce the weight of your luggage.

Indeed, if you are going away for a long time and plan to visit several countries with different climates or even do various activities, you will not need to take with you tons of clothing to combat both the cold and the heat, since They do both, or even a set of comfort clothing, since they already are.

We will then use them for many activities, this can be for example for hiking, but also mountaineering, where temperatures can vary from cold to hot, as well as simply wearing them while traveling during the day. They are also found for certain sports, such as cycling, running, etc..

How to choose the right technical thermoregulating clothing?

However, it is very important to choose your technical clothing carefully, and not to buy it just anywhere. Personally I often order from the store www.brubeck.fr, because they have a fairly wide range of thermoregulating clothing, of excellent quality and at a very reasonable price. Where others score, they often cut corners on one or more points. But let’s see together how to make your choice:

Choice of Material:

The first point to check is of course the material. Not all technical clothing uses the same technology to regulate your body temperature. Thus, we find clothes made of merino wool, but also of synthetic fibers or even a mixture of the two. Merino has the advantage of having less odor when you sweat, but personally I prefer synthetic because it is more efficient, dries faster, etc.

Comfort :

Second point to take into consideration will be your comfort. Thermal clothing should be worn close to the body, without reducing your mobility. It must therefore be as comfortable as possible. The choice of material will also influence this point, personally, I find that merino is a little itchy, but synthetic, for example, can irritate certain parts of the body.

Size and Cut:

Next, you will need to ensure the cut. Thermoregulating clothing is not necessarily ugly, although some people think otherwise. Choose a color that you like, the right size obviously, but above all the right cut. Some t-shirts, for example, have a round neck, others a v-neck, just like pants can be rather long or not, with or without pockets, etc.

Breathability:

On the technical side once again, it will be necessary to ensure the breathability of the garment, this is a very important point. Because it is precisely the fact that it is breathable that will make you sweat less or rather better! If the sweat stays in, then you will probably be cold in winter. In addition, it will dry more slowly, etc.

The price :

Finally, penultimate criterion but this is specific to each person, we are going to talk about the price! Clothing with thermoregulation technology will obviously be more expensive than a classic model. But quality always has a price. Everyone has their own budget in this regard.

Activity & Use:

Finally, the last point that I would mention will be the activity and therefore the use, which in my opinion will influence the choice of clothing that you will make. I come back to what I said above, if you plan to use your technical t-shirt or pants both for activities and during the day, opt for something that you like, comfortable to wear in all conditions.

My opinion on thermoregulating clothing!

I must admit that initially it wasn’t my cup of tea, especially because of the price. Telling myself that ultimately in case of cold I just had to layer on top of one another, and remove layers in case of heat. I didn’t necessarily want to equip myself in this way, and intended to keep my travel wardrobe as is. Then over time I clearly changed my mind!

On the one hand for the performance of these clothes and their ability to keep you warm or cool, without needing to be bulky. But above all I realized during certain trips and/or activities that these clothes were of great help to me, notably when I climbed the Volcano in Guatemala where it was very cold and yet with my thermo-regulating t-shirt, it was perfect.

Finally, when I came across Brubeck and after trying it, I found the ideal compromise between quality and the right price. I had tested some from Decathlon and Intersport, but in terms of comfort it wasn’t crazy, and then in terms of performance we will come back..

Afterwards it is true that it has a cost, but ultimately in the long term it quickly pays off, especially if you choose well and like me, you wear them very often. But maybe you have another opinion?! If this is the case I invite you to tell me all about it in the comments!
